Let's Start with a Little Magic You Already Have
There's something about a full moon that makes you pause. Maybe it's the way it brightens the sky when everything else is quiet, or how it makes folding the laundry feel less like a chore and more like a relaxing ritual. I used to roll my eyes at the idea of "moon rituals"-until I realized I already had them. Sweeping the floors at night. Reorganizing a shelf when I felt unsettled. Starting seeds on instinct. Turns out, that instinct has always been there.
I still don't light a dozen candles or chant to the stars (unless I'm alone with a good cup of tea :)). But I do lean into the rhythm of the moon-and it's helped ground my home, my energy, and even my garden.
Who This Is For
If you're a little bit witchy, a little bit tired, and a lot curious about how to bring intention into your home life-this one's for you. Whether you're new to rituals or just need a more approachable way to center yourself, you don't need crystals, robes, or an altar. Just a broom, a notebook, and maybe a few herbs!
What This Is About
This blog walks you through practical, beginner-friendly full moon rituals you can do in your home-plus how to start seeds or plan your garden by the lunar cycle. You'll also find personal stories, real research, and a few helpful affiliate suggestions that I actually use.
Why It Matters
We're not just surviving anymore-we're remembering how to live with rhythm. Nature doesn't rush. It moves in cycles. When you follow the moon, you're not adding something new to your to-do list. You're syncing back up with something ancient, something human, something powerful.
Full Moon Rituals for the Home
The full moon is a time of release and reflection. Here are a few simple ways I lean into that energy:
Clean with intention
Sweep the floors, declutter your space, or wipe down the surfaces while thinking about what no longer serves you. I call this "functional spellwork"-and no one even has to know!
If you'd like a recipe for a great cleaning and calming spray, head to gumroad and pick up my Lavender Spray!
Take a full moon bath
If the kids are in bed and the moon and stars are out, a soak in Epsom salts with chamomile or lavender can be magical. You're not "doing a ritual"-you're just giving your body permission to reset. To get you started-follow this link to a FREE Moon Bath Soak Recipe
Journal with moonlight
I often sit by the window and write a few thoughts:
What did I learn this month?
What am I holding onto that I can let go of?
What do I need to feel rooted again?
What did I do with intention this month?
What did I do to take care of me this month?
You don't need to fill pages! Just a moment of pause makes a world of difference.
For my journal I use an old spiral notebook I found laying around half used. However, if you're looking for something aesthetic, or something that speaks to you, Amazon has you covered
Planting by the Moon: Gardening with Lunar Rhythm
This isn't new-age fluff-it's an old homesteader tradition!
I didn't know anything about gardening by lunar rhythm until I picked up my first Farmers' Almanac to see what my next growing year was going to be like. Farmers' Almanac and biodynamic gardeners have long believed the moon's gravity affects seed germination and moisture in soil, just like it does the tides, and at times, our bodies circadian rhythm.
Here's a basic planting-by-the-moon breakdown I've found helpful:
New Moon to First Quarter (waxing)
Best for planting above-ground crops like herbs, lettuce, and peas
Energy is building=growth and expansion
Full Moon to Last Quarter (waning)
Best for root crops like carrots, onions, or potatoes
Great time to prune, harvest, or transplant
If you're interest in giving this type of planting/gardening a try grab a Farmers' Almanac or a lunar gardening calendar.
Final Thought
You don't need to believe in magic to recognize when something feels right. Whether you light a candle, plant some seeds, or simply journal your thoughts while watching the moon rise-you're doing it. You're honoring the cycle. And that, in itself, is the ritual!
