Fall doesn’t just affect your wardrobe—it affects your skin, too. As the weather shifts and the air dries out, I always notice the same things: a little tightness in my cheeks, some unexpected redness, and a general sense that my face is not quite as happy as it was in July.

Over the years, I’ve swapped out the harsh exfoliants and endless serums for something simpler: gentle herbal rituals that feel like care, not another task.

These are three of my favorites—simple, customizable, and made to help you feel grounded in your own skin again. No fancy spa required.

Quick Herbal Guide by Skin Type

Not sure where to start? These herbs have worked well for me over the years, and you’ll see many of them pop up in today’s recipes:

  • Dry or sensitive skin: Chamomile, calendula, oat, lavender

  • Oily or acne-prone skin: Green tea, witch hazel, tea tree, rosemary

  • Mature or dull skin: Rose, frankincense, hibiscus, carrot seed

  • Stressed skin (weather, hormonal): Lemon balm, holy basil, lavender

💡 Tip: You can swap herbs in any of the recipes below based on this list. No need to hunt down the “perfect” one—use what you’ve got.

1. Hydrating Green Tea Facial Toner

This is my go-to when my skin is both dry and shiny—especially in the early weeks of furnace season when everything feels out of balance.

To Make:

  • Brew 1 bag (or 1 tsp loose) green tea in 1/2 cup hot water; let cool

  • Add 1 tbsp alcohol-free witch hazel and 1 tsp aloe vera juice

  • Optional: 1 drop lavender or tea tree essential oil (skin-safe)

To Use:
Apply with a cotton round or spritz with a glass mister. I use these amber 2 oz spray bottles from Amazon—perfect size and reusable for everything from toner to pillow spray (affiliate).

2. Chamomile & Oat Gentle Cleanser Mask

I make this when my cheeks are pink and flaky or when my daughter has one of her post-wind rashy days. It’s soft, quick, and doubles as a mask if you want to linger.

To Make:

  • Blend 2 tbsp oats, 1 tbsp dried chamomile, and 1 tsp honey with a splash of warm water

  • Let sit for 5 minutes to soften

  • Apply to damp face and gently massage

To Use:
Rinse off right away for cleansing, or leave it on for 5–10 minutes for a calming mask.

Sensitive Skin Tip:
Skip the chamomile and honey and just mix oats + water for the gentlest version. Pair with the green tea toner afterward to calm everything down.

3. Soothing Glow Facial Serum

This one’s a keeper. It’s simple enough for everyday use and rich enough for when your skin feels thirsty. I make a big bottle in the fall and use a few drops nightly all season.

To Make:

  • Use 1 tbsp jojoba or sunflower oil as a base

  • Add a few drops of lavender- or calendula-infused oil

  • Optional: 1 drop frankincense or rose essential oil

To Use:
Warm 2–3 drops between your palms and press gently into your skin after cleansing or misting. I keep mine in a dropper bottle by the sink with a label so I actually remember to use it.

Final Thought:

Your skin goes through just as many seasonal shifts as your wardrobe or pantry. These rituals are a way to care for yourself naturally—with herbs, intention, and a few quiet moments to exhale.

Start with one. Brew your toner. Blend a soft mask. Warm a little oil in your palms.

Herbal skincare doesn’t have to be complicated—it just has to feel like care.

Combine this with the Fall Cleaning Bundle for a full-body seasonal reset.
