Fall brings structure—but it also brings chaos. One moment you’re packing lunches, the next you’re negotiating bedtime with a child who’s turned into a feral woodland creature. I’ve been there (twice today, in fact).

Over the years, I’ve found that building gentle herbal support into our daily rhythm helps tremendously—not just for my kids, but for me too. Whether it’s a focus tea in the morning or a calming mist at bedtime, herbs have become part of our anchor points.

These routines aren’t rigid. They’re soft, sensory rituals that support calm attention, fewer crashes, and smoother transitions from sun-up to lights-out.

Morning Focus Tea (for kids + grownups)

This tea blend supports calm energy and clear thinking without the crash. I drink it during our slow mornings, and my daughter loves hers in a fun mug with honey.

To Brew:

  • 1 tsp lemon balm

  • 1/2 tsp spearmint

  • 1/4 tsp holy basil (adaptogen for grownups; omit for young children)

  • Steep in 1 cup hot water for 5–7 min

Sweeten With: Honey or glycerite (like elderberry or lemon balm)

Herbal Focus Gummies

Gummies are a fun way to sneak in herbal support. For daytime, I make a batch using brewed tea or a mild glycerite as the base.

Base Ideas:

  • Brewed lemon balm or lemon balm glycerite

  • Optional: tiny splash of spearmint or holy basil

  • Gelatin + honey base

Pro Tip: Pour into small molds and store in fridge for up to 7 days.

Bedtime Spray for Soothing Sleep

Our go-to blend for after bath, after stories, and whenever the wiggles won’t stop. My daughter calls it her "sleepy dream spray."

To Make:

  • 2 oz distilled water

  • 1 oz alcohol-free witch hazel or vodka

  • 6–8 drops lavender essential oil

  • 4 drops chamomile or sweet orange EO (optional)

Shake before each use. Mist pillows, pajamas, and doorways. I keep ours in a labeled amber glass bottle in the bedroom.

Bonus: Glycerite for Transitions

I keep a lemon balm + passionflower glycerite near the toothbrushes. One dropper before school or dinner helps ease those harder shifts without sedation.

Tip: If mornings are hardest, offer a dropper while they get dressed. If evenings are tricky, use it as part of your wind-down routine.

Final Thought:

You don’t need a rigid schedule or a perfect system. You just need a few simple tools that help you and your littles flow from one part of the day to the next. Herbs offer that—not as a fix-all, but as a nudge toward balance.

Start small. Brew the tea. Mist the room. Offer the gummy. Over time, these become more than habits—they become comfort.
