For Curious Kids & Magical Moms
If your little one is anything like mine, always mixing potions out of garden mud and flower petals, this blog is for you. Whether you're homeschooling or just trying to ditch the screen, these three garden-based herbal activities are safe, sensory rich, and downright enchanting.
No cauldrons or complicated tools required-just your backyard, your kitchen witch stash, and a sense of wonder!
1.Grow Your Own Potion
Teach kids to plant simple herbals they'll use later for teas and sprays.
This is a hands-on garden activity where children plant 3 "magical" herbs and learn how to care for them like little apothecaries.
Kid-Approved Herbs to Plant:
Lemon balm-calming and easy to grow
Peppermint-fun to sniff and repels bugs
Chamomile-tiny daisy-like flowers for sleepy tea
Activity Tip: Decorate the pots with waterproof paint pens and write magical names that the kids come up with for their new plant friends.

2.Make a Garden Potion Spray (Bug Repelling & Mood-Lifting)
This is part DIY body spray, part magical ritual. Let kids collect their herbs, add water and witch hazel, and brew their own summer mist.
Sunshine Spray for Kids (Mini Garden Mist)-Recipe here, but you can download and print at Gumroad for free too!
Ingredients:
1/4 cup distilled water (60ml)
1/4 cup witch hazel (alcohol-free) (60ml)
1Tbsp fresh lemon balm or mint or kid-friendly herb of choice
Optional: 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil
Can add mica glitter if desired for "fairy shimmer"
Shake it up in a spray bottle and mist away the grumps! Can be used as a room spray, mood spray, or nature-friendly bug repellent.
3.Sun-Brewed Herbal Tea Stand (Lemonade Meets Nature School)
Turn your summer herbal adventures into a mini business or a playdate party. Kids gather herbs, brew sun tea, and set up a backyard "stand" to serve to family, friends, or even teddy bears.
Recipe: Kid-Friendly Citrus Sun Tea-Recipe here, but you can download and print at Gumroad for free too!
Ingredients:
2Tbsp dried or fresh lemon balm
1Tbsp hibiscus petals
1tsp chamomile flowers
1 thin slice fresh orange or lemon
Steep in the sun 3-4 hours, then strain and chill
Serve over ice with a splash of honey (kiddos over 1) or stevia. Garnish with fruit or edible flowers (like violets or borage)
Optional Activity: Make play money and signs. Practice "serving" and explaining herbal benefits and shop ownership in fun kid language.

Final Thoughts
These herbal activities do more than entertain-they help children connect with nature, understand where their food and medicine come from, and feel empowered by their knowledge. You're not just growing plants...you're planting confidence!
