The average home contains over 500 chemicals-many of which come from everyday cleaners and sprays. But don't panic. With just a few thoughtful swaps, you can detox your home one step at a time!
These are three of the most impactful (and easy!) DIY swaps I recommend.
1.Citrus All-Purpose Spray
Why it works: Citrus peels contain natural oils-especially limonene-which are powerful degreasers and solvents. When infused in vinegar, these oils help break down grease, grime, and sticky residues. Vinegar itself is a mild acid that dissolves mineral deposits, soap scum, and acts as a natural disinfectant on non-porous surfaces.
This combo not only smells better than plain vinegar-it amplifies cleaning power without synthetic chemicals.
What we use:
Citrus peel vinegar infusion
Distilled water
Lemon, rosemary or tea tree EO
Optional: A drop of castile for extra cleaning
Bonus: you can literally use the orange, lemon and lime peels that you have laying around!

2.DIY Linen & Room Spray
Why it works: This spray freshens air and fabric without synthetic fragrance or aerosols, relying on plant-based ingredients that serve specific roles:
What we use:
Witch hazel (or vodka) acts as a natural emulsifier and quick-drying agent. It helps disperse the essential oils evenly through the liquid and evaporates quickly, making it ideal for sprays.
Essential oils like lavender, lemon, or clary sage offer more than just scent-the contain volatile plant compounds with antibacterial and mood-enhancing properties
Distilled water
Unlike commercial sprays that rely on synthetic "fragrance" (a legally unregulated catch-all term), this blend is non-toxic, safer for sensitive individuals, and provides real aromatherapeutic benefits.
3.Powder Scrub Cleaner (Sinks & Toilets)
Why it works: Natural abrasion + fizzing action makes this a powerhouse for grime.
What we use:
Baking soda
Citric acid
Optional: salt, borax, or essential oils
Sprinkle, spritz, scrub. Done!
Final Thoughts: Home detox doesn't need to break your brain or your budget. Start small. Stay consistent. And remember-it's not about perfection. It's about progress.
